I am currently in the final year of my building surveying degree. The company has supported me through the whole process by allowing me a day release to attend university once a week. The experience I have gained whilst working at Align has been invaluable to allow me to understand my degree better as I can apply what I have learnt at uni to day to day situations. Furthermore, I am able to take skills I have developed at Align to assist in my university course such as, Auto CAD skills, Revit Skills, how to conduct a range of surveys and understand how real life projects are ran onsite which has developed my knowledge of the different forms on contracts. During covid whilst working from home all this support was continued by the company to allow me to continue with my university course. I feel like APP is a good place to work due to the support it provides and willingness it shows to further employee’s development through a wide range of training and support through achieving the RICS qualification. Everyone at Align is willing to help which is very assuring as a trainee building surveyor in the early part of my career where I wasn’t familiar with the job role. All equipment such as computers, ipads etc. are always kept up to date allowing me to undertake surveys and tasks efficiently, ensuring accurate reports, drawings and surveys are produced.

Current Study Path – BEng Building Services Engineering at Leeds Beckett University
I started at Align in 2017, the training I have had since then includes studying for a Level 3 Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment and a HNC in Building Services Engineering at Hartlepool College of Further Education. I am currently at Leeds Beckett University studying for a BEng (Hons) in Building Services Engineering, I aim to achieve this and go onto achieve a BSc masters in Building Services Engineering to eventually become a chartered engineer. Throughout this education process I have been provided support through my mentor (Rob Tansley) and my line manager (Chris Robson), as well as other members of the M&E team. Example include answering questions, proof reading assignment work, guiding me towards specific documentation that might be useful, providing documentation etc, and they are always readily available to do this. When working from home the same level of support was there, although the adaption from face-to-face to digital had to be made. Align are always willing to support someone’s education and I think it’s an excellent company to work for especially being someone who is at the start of their career. All the tools are provided and there is clear career progression that I can make.

I am enjoying working for Align Property Partners. I have learnt so much already in a short space of time which is benefitting me whilst studying part time at university. I can use knowledge gained in office to assist with work provided Form University. I have the benefit of my tutors at university as well as my mentors and peers at Align property Partners. All colleagues in office are great to work with and always available to assist if I ever require any assistance. I have been provided with all relevant equipment and tools to carry out my job.
