Programme

Hannah Clayton of Align successfully became an RIBA Architecture Ambassador – voluntarily collaborating with schools on architectural projects. The RIBA focussed on Hull schools in 2017 in partnership with the City of Culture programme. Tracy Cowap of Bellfield Primary School was partnered with Hannah and they developed a concept for the pupils to explore.

Concept

Hannah developed and delivered workshops in which the pupils explored the chosen topic of “Roots and Routes” throughout the spring and summer terms, culminating in a final exhibition model. The pupils created a series of Hull ‘worlds’ representing famous people, sports teams, music (and more) emanating from the city. The hung model enables the audience to step into the worlds as well as view from afar.

Exhibition/Legacy

Work from over 30 Hull schools and 1,200 pupils was publicly exhibited in July. The intention of the programme was to inspire young people with a lasting appreciation, enjoyment and understanding of the places and spaces they inhabit. Throughout the year, the children received an insight into architecture and were inspired about the potential of the built environment by the successfully delivered programme.

“Thank you for supporting the event, and enabling Bellfield pupils to come along too – I hope they were proud to see their work displayed! I hope you feel proud of your involvement in this scheme and encouraged by the enthusiasm for architecture shown by teachers and students in Hull. Thank you again for all of your work. I look forward to working with you again in the near future.”
