Complex Care Children’s Home

North Lincolnshire Council, appointed Align, one of North Yorkshire Council’s companies to provide structural engineering services for Complex Care Children’s’ Home.

Overview:

In response to the growing need for specialized care, North Lincolnshire Council embarked on a mission to create a Complex Care Children’s’ Home, investing nearly £6 million. This new multi-purpose facility, located in Scunthorpe, serves as a beacon of support for families and young people with complex disabilities. It offers bespoke short-break care, environmentally friendly facilities, and the capacity for more children to access vital short breaks. Supported by funding from the Department for Education (DfE), this project aligns with North Lincolnshire Council’s commitment to enhancing the lives of vulnerable families.

The Challenge

The project has had its challenges, including unexpected bedrock encounters across the area. This unforeseen obstacle necessitated an emergency site visit and a comprehensive foundation redesign. Our team of structural engineers had to ensure seamless coordination with North Lincolnshire Council and their team of architects to ensure the project met local requirements and standards.

Solutions

Align’s team of experienced engineers provided comprehensive structural engineering services including initial site surveys, topographical assessment, Ground Radar Surveys, and a feasibility study for a ground source heat pump aligning with North Lincolnshire Council’s vision to create an environmentally friendly facility. Align’s commitment to delivering engineering excellence ensured the project was delivered to high standards and on time.

Benefits:

The Complex Care Children’s’ Home enable short breaks and local care, ensuring quality time for children whilst decreasing incidents of family breakdowns and mitigate the need for children to be placed in care. The site’s design incorporates flexibility to accommodate future development, demonstrating the need evolving needs.

The project has advanced and is now in its final stages, with a focus on the installation of fixtures and fittings.
