Local contractors pledge interest ahead of retrofit rollout

A new framework launched to help deliver the decarbonisation and retrofit of private and social housing across North Yorkshire has received interest from over 20 local contractors.

Align is working with a range of organisations including North Yorkshire Council on the prospective rollout of up to £300 million worth of energy efficiency upgrades to homes.

The latest phase of the scheme, which is expected to begin later this year, aims to renovate private and socially-rented properties worst affected by problems such as poor-quality insulation and ineffective heating systems.

Since January, Align has been welcoming applications from contractors keen to help deliver the upgrades, which will include air source heat pumps, solar PV systems, ventilation upgrades and draught proofing.

Operations Director at Align, Andrew Bardon, said: “We have been delighted with the response since the launch of the Framework and are now in the process of closing out the evaluation.

“We have received a great deal of interest from local suppliers keen to deliver the retrofit services required, and we are excited to see this decarbonisation drive progress over the coming months.

“As a company, we are passionate about sustainability – and our multi-disciplinary team has been recognised nationally for their work in providing hundreds of residents, businesses and other organisations with crucial energy-saving advice and solutions.

“This commitment will continue as we finalise the make-up of the Framework, so we can continue to make a real and positive difference to the lives of communities across North Yorkshire and beyond.”

The new framework will support prospective works as part of the latest wave of the Government’s warm homes local grant and social housing funds.

North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for housing, Cllr Simon Myers, said: “Some of our most vulnerable residents live in the most expensive-to-heat and worst-insulated homes in the county.

“It’s therefore imperative that we continue to do all we can to improve the energy efficiency of both the council’s housing stock and privately-owned homes, so that we can protect the environment and save residents money on their bills.

“This is an ongoing team effort as we continue to work with our colleagues at Align and other organisations to make a real and positive difference to residents’ lives.”
